Number 1 Fan

Its been a week since I've had the will to draw something for myself outside of work.
Its been a rather... uninspiring week, so to speak, and I've had very little strength or motive to draw.

Sunday was Mother's Day, and so on Saturday night I decided to sketch my mom as a present to her.

This painting was the only one I kept from all the lousy attempts at drawing for myself I did all week.

My mom is one of best examples of a woman that I know.
She's extraordinarily giving, sweet, funny, and joyful.
And she's been incredibly patient with me and my painstaking journey to find my career, despite my obvious frustrations with myself.
And I couldn't be more grateful to her for being the role-model she is, and her undying support for anything I set my mind to achieve.

Relationships come and go, but a mother's love always stays the same.
Thank you, Mama for all you've done, and all that you are, and all that you mean to me.
I love you, I love you, I love you.
And I thank God for blessing me with you.

Can I just say how AWESOME The Legend of Korra is???
Hats off to my buddies over at Nick who worked on this show!
Its mind-blasting.

Axe

It seems the Bow and Arrow are becoming more popular with female protagonists these days (Artemis from Young Justice, Merida from Brave, and Katniss from Hunger Games). And while it is quite a kick butt weapon, I'd like to see a female with a more... brutish weapon, and wield it just a well as a man.

I don't know of many female characters whose first weapon of choice would be an axe (other than Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon), so I thought I'd play around with some ideas.

This is one of the first doodles I came up with.
I'll prolly post the rest later.

Ain't No Mountain

Environment painting practice. The top is mine, the bottom is the reference photo from flickr (DOES NOT BELONG TO ME!)
I just wanted to see if I could capture the temperature of the mountains, where its sunny but probably negative bajillion degrees below zero. I like the warm/cool contrast of the photo, so I wanted to enhance that in the painting.
Lord only knows I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to background painting =P
